Mirabeau Drawer Chest

The European perspective on contemporary furniture design has always had a place in fashion forward homes. Rectilinear, panel constructed cases with lower profiles are hallmarks of this style. Our twist on contemporary takes some of its cues from this thinking, but we've added a few touches to make the forms a bit more visually interesting.

To avoid a shiny lacquered finish, a look that can sometimes come across as plasticky, we've crafted a soft, cotton like painted finish over birch veneers. This multi-dimensional artisan finish features feather light brush strokes of silver and gray, mottled with pale water spotting.

Constructed in a "sealed case" method, back panels are attached to the case frame using slotted, French dovetail joinery. No staples or nails are used in the installation of the back panel. Solid wood framed dust protection panels are built into the case skeleton between each drawer. These features not only protect contents, but they also contribute to the overall stability of the case. Back panels are constructed of ¾" thick plywood, the significant weight of which helps provide a counterbalance to the front of the case when drawers are extended. Drawer boxes are built using a 5-piece method with English dovetails on the fronts and backs. Drawer interiors are stained with a pleasing match to the outside of the case. Our drawer guide system features 60 steel ball bearings per drawer and is tested to support 100 lbs.

The spectacular hardware that adorns each piece was inspired by a couture bracelet found in Paris. The soft, ribbon like undulations reflect light in multiple directions across its brushed silver finish.
